Dionna started Kimani kidz because she saw a need for diversity in dolls, toys and children's products. As a mother of three boys she didn't realize the lack of African American representation in dolls until she was married and gained a step daughter. Being an avid crafter she began customizing doll to have natural hair and more afrocentric clothing to better represent her step daughter and her family. What started as a craft project with dolls soon turned into a hobby and eventually a business. Since then Dionna has created many products that truly represent African American girls with a range of skin tones and hair types. Dionna believes that all children should have toys that represent them.
